Week 10 Postpartum

Week: 10

How big is babe:
I may try to find a way to weigh him soon, but he's slowly moving out of 0-3 and getting snug into the 3mo clothing!

Our week at a glance:
Dental appointment for me (yay!), Music class (ended up getting canceled - Echo was sick!), parent meeting at work, lunch with Jill and Stella, Sarah and Lily came by to catch up on some episodes of GIRLS, Nick's basketball tourney on Saturday + first time swimming!!!!!

Something new this week:
Less poopin! I keep expecting poops in his diaper but it’s just pee, so his very regular newborn poops are going away. I absolutely cannot believe he is almost 3 months, it blows my mind!

He seems to have fallen in to a natural routine of wake up, nurse, stay awake for about 1 hour and a half and sleep again. It’s pretty predictable which has made it easier. He is also taking longer naps this week. I think it may be a bit of a growth spurt as he also nursed one day this week for almost an hour!

He is getting more chattier by the day too! He loves to tell me stories - we have the best conversations before we even get out of bed. I CANNOT wait until he is using some words.

Most challenging moment:
Not a lot of sleep at night! OOfdah. This week has been a bit lacking in the sleep department at night. He is napping so well during the day, I got excited that he may continue at night, but nope. It's ok, we aren't up AAALL night, but we're back to up about every hour and a half to 2 hours. VERY normal for this age of course, I guess I just got spoiled these previous weeks. I guess that means lots of naps for me and babe. I'm ok with that!

Something I loved this week:
The way he looks at me lately. I can just see in his eyes the love so deep. It fills my heart so full - I just stare at him! Locking eyes and smiling at each other snuggling and kissing and cuddling him is so so lovely. It’s crazy how much you love them. It’s the greatest love I’ve felt and the newness of him and getting to know him feels so magical, I’m all butterflies and giddiness, I’m just really loving it.

Mama time:
I had a dentist appointment on Wednesday, so we picked up my friend Sarah from work and she spent some time with Finn while I got my teeth cleaned. Finn loved it and had so much fun tooling around downtown with Auntie Sarah. Also, if you know me you know how much I love the dentist. So this was DEFINITELY some mama time.

I also had a parent meeting at work and I gotta say - it felt good to be back with my old "work hat" on! Working with these children and their parents is so fun and easy and just has always come so naturally to me that I felt that sense of purpose again and that felt pretty great.

I also took some time this week to start going through my closet. I haven't gotten rid of a ton of stuff, but it felt good to purge some of it. I'm hoping to get go through more and really make a dent by summer. I do not need all of these clothes!

What am I eating:
Lots of eggs and avocado. I also made lactation energy bites and I literally cannot get enough of them! I could eat about 10 a day. I try to stick to about 2 with my coffee, but it's so hard! They are great even if you're not lactating!

The recipe is:

2 cups of oatmeal (dry)
1 cup chocolate chips
1 cup creamy peanut butter
3/4 cup flaxseed
2/3 cup (raw) honey
2 tsp vanilla

**combine all in a bowl. Roll into balls and set in fridge to set up.

That's it! SO SO good.

I also made a DELICIOUS tortilla soup. I pretty much binge ate that and quesadillas all week for dinner. Not sure where that craving is coming from, but...Yum-o!

What's working:
Finn has been taking his naps in our bedroom and he just seems so much more rested when he wakes. His morning naps have now been over 2 hours and he is so giddy when he wakes. I love it.

My body/movement:
My body made, carried and delivered this baby! Isn’t it funny how easily we can forget to take a moment to celebrate our bodies!? We spend far too much time punishing ourselves over what we see as our sagging breasts, mum bums, cellulite, muffin tops, wobbly arms, thick thighs, etc, etc. Whatever story we have made up about ourselves- the list goes on far too long!

This week I have finally made it back to my mat and worked in some yoga to my daily routine. If even a few minutes of stretching! I have gotten Finn on his mat too - he has mastered "happy baby."

I have also been lifting my little free weights whenever I have a chance. It isn't much, but my sore arms tell me I'm working something!

It feels really good to M O V E!

Checking in:
This week was busy! It is still so strange to be away from him if even for an hour, but knowing he's in good hands makes me feel happy. While I was at the dentist I'm so glad Sarah was able to hang with him. She loves him so much and was one of the closest supporters during my pregnancy. She came with me to appointments and made sure I was walking (even in the bloody cold)! We love Sarah.

Also, back to having that sense of purpose. Don't get me wrong, my new role as mom is LITERALLY the best thing I have ever done, but to interact with other adults and feel needed in a completely different way made me feel important. It made me feel like I'm not just a mom to this boy, I'm also so much to so many other people.
